Port Harcourt International Airport: connecting the Niger Delta to the rest of the world!

Port Harcourt International Airport (PHC) is Nigeria’s third-busiest airport and the busiest in Rivers state. 1.04 million passengers passed through this airport in 2016, at which point it was the 31st African airport in terms of passenger arrivals and departures. There are domestic flights to Nigeria’s other two key airports in Abuja and Lagos, as well as Owerri. On the international front, recent direct routes have opened to Malabo, Equatorial Guinea and Accra, Ghana. There is an established route to Frankfurt (involving one stop or more) and to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport with Air France (also involving a connection in Abuja.) Air France have a network of over 200 routes all over the world, with particularly good coverage of western and eastern Europe, north Africa and the Middle East.

If you’re on a flight leaving from Port Harcourt International Airport (PHC), you’ll probably have noticed a few changes. The new international terminal was commissioned in October 2018 and should be fully operational by early 2019. The terminal is designed to handle 7 million passengers annually.

Port Harcourt International Airport is a little under 30 km north of the city of Port Harcourt. From the railway station in the city centre, it’s a journey of between 40 and 55 minutes by car. The quickest access is generally via the Aba Expressway, G U Ake Road, A231 and then Airport Road. The Rumuokwuta-Choba Road offers another alternative route. If you don’t have your own car, there are plenty of taxi companies to take you to the airport.
